It's already Summer.

It was hot yesterday. I got a job in Sutter. It's a little nicer there. I wish Dad would move us there. I'll start 14 hour days when Summer vacation starts.

I'm going to be moving pipe, and learning how to check the irrigation canals. 6 dollars an hour. The man who is my superviser is a migrant worker. He's an illegal. He doesn't even make wages. He gets some cash every day and it isn't as much as I'm making. You should see the way his family has to live. They all work, even the 5 year old.

I'm glad I learned Spanish at school. I think I'll take it again next year. I bet I get an A. .

Slave labor is common enough here in New Mexico. Poor Mexicans come here looking for streets paved in gold but they end up owned by farmers who pay them just enough to support the local economy. Food. Gasoline. Maybe some new shoes for little Juanito.

It's the same here in California. The economy here is propped up by migrant slavery, and then locals have the gall to scream when local schools admit "illegal immigrants" into their classes.
